A home theatre system is incomplete without a high quality subwoofer or subs as they are called. It is always preferable that your entertainment unit be situated in a room with unequal dimensions, which will help spread the bass resonance in a way that will not nullify the effect off the sound waves.

The deep resonating sounds of the subwoofer magnify, when pressed into one corner of the room or brought near the walls, hence placing your couch right against the wall would be a good idea. Since, the closer you move to a wall, the ear will pick up greater and deeper resonances from the speakers. It will also prove extremely beneficial if the one is able to adjust the distance between the sitting area and the walls and the distance between the corner of the room and the subwoofer. The addition of a second subwoofer in the room, in contrast to popular myth, does not really increase the overall sound volume of the entertainment unit, but it results in the reception of smoother bass resonances by a larger number of people. This sound resonance can be optimized by placing the second subwoofer opposite to the first one, in another corner of the room, across the diagonal. Concrete walls and floors should be avoided since, they cannot effectively absorb sound waves, producing the unwanted bass booms, which wallboard flexes can reduce.
